Transactional Real Estate Paralegal:  TN Office

Reno & Cavanaugh, PLLC seeks a Paralegal for the transactional real estate practice in our Nashville, TN office.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Candidates considered must be able to work well both independently and within a team. Strong administrative, time management, and communication skills are required. Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects.

As a Paralegal, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Providing support to attorneys with mixed-finance transactions, as well as on matters dealing with nonprofits, affordable housing, and low-income housing tax credit developments.
  2. Coordinating and managing closings, organizing closing documents and signature pages, preparing closing statements, initiating incoming and outgoing wires, and disbursing funds as needed.
  3. Supervising an assistant, attending and/or holding client conference calls, communicating with clients and updating them on due diligence lists, drafting legal documents, managing entity formation, and entering daily client billable time.

Required Experience:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, a college degree is a plus.  Experience in a law firm or busy office is preferred.
  2. Candidates should be comfortable working in a large professional environment, and have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  3. Excellent technical, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills are essential to be successful in this position.

Legal Assistant - DC Office

Our firm seeks a Legal Assistant for the Dispute Resolution Group in our Washington, DC office. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment. Candidates must be able to work both independently and collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, clients, and opposing counsel. Strong administrative, time management, and communication skills are essential, particularly in deadline-driven matters. As a Legal Assistant, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Litigation Support & Case Management

  • Supporting attorneys and paralegals in all phases of litigation, including pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
  • Drafting, formatting, proofreading, cite-checking, and filing court documents in compliance with federal, state, and local court rules.
  • Managing electronic court filings (e-filing) and maintaining litigation calendars, including tracking court deadlines, hearings, and scheduling orders.
  • Organizing and maintaining case files (electronic and hard copy), including pleadings, correspondence, discovery responses, and exhibits.

Discovery & Trial Preparation

  • Assisting with document collection, review coordination, and production for discovery.
  • Preparing deposition binders, exhibit lists, trial notebooks, witness files, and hearing materials.
  • Coordinating with court reporters, expert witnesses, vendors, and litigation support services.
  • Managing subpoena preparation and service tracking.

Administrative & Client Support

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required; experience with document management systems and time/billing software is a plus.

Paralegal: DC Office

The ideal candidate for this role has strong transactional experience and thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment, and is interested in working on complex, high-impact real estate transactions. The paralegal will play a key role in supporting attorneys through all stages of affordable housing deals—from tracking due diligence and organizing HUD submissions to managing closing and post-closing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and track all aspects of complex real estate transactions, including maintaining detailed checklists, timelines, and organized transaction files.
  • Coordinate document submissions to HUD and other regulatory agencies.
  • Support attorneys on mixed-finance transactions, including those with affordable housing, nonprofit, and/or LIHTC components.
  • Oversee due diligence processes, including ordering and reviewing lien and judgment searches and corresponding with vendors and agencies.
  • Assist with entity formation and maintenance.
  • Prepare, organize, and proofread transaction and closing documents, including managing document exchanges.
  • Review title commitments and surveys; coordinate responses and work with title companies to finalize policies and manage recordation.
  • Organize and manage closings, including preparing signature packages and coordinating execution by multiple parties.
  • Assist with closing preparation, attend closings as needed, and manage post-closing follow-up, including closing binders.
  • Monitor deadlines and transaction progress; communicate regularly with attorneys, clients, and deal teams.
  • Supervise legal assistants and coordinate workflow across transaction teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of paralegal experience.
  • Experience managing large document submissions or complex legal transactions.
  • Familiarity with affordable housing, or commercial real estate is a plus.
  • Experience reviewing title and survey documents is a plus but not required.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills are essential with exceptional drafting and proofreading skills.
